DALLAS (April 17, 2006) Mark Resmer, Chief Technology Officer of the Whitney International University System, recently was named one of Computerworld magazine's "Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2006."
The awards program, now in its seventh year, spotlights leaders from both the technology and business sides of a broad range of organizations. According to the award citation, "Honored individuals manage internal IT organizations, mentor and motivate their IT teams, envision innovative solutions to business problems and effectively manage and execute IT strategies." The IT leaders were honored at a conference in Palm Desert, Calif., this spring.
At Whitney International University System, Mr. Resmer is working with a team of nationally renowned educators to develop a global network of colleges and universities. WIUS was launched in 2005 with the goal of making higher education more accessible and affordable for students around the world.
"Information technology is the key to breaking down barriers in education around the world, so it is extremely valuable for the Whitney International University System to have one of the top IT leaders in the country as part of our team," said Dr. Gerald Heeger, the president of WIUS.
Mr. Resmer has an extensive background both in academia and the broader IT industry. Most recently, Resmer was Corporate Chief Technology Officer at eCollege, the largest provider of online distance learning programs in the United States.
Previously he led the technology direction for Prometheus at The George Washington University and was the chief technology officer for iUniverse. Resmer also helped to found the IMS project to promote standardization and growth of the distributed learning marketplace.
